Jersey Heritage protects and promotes the Island's rich heritage and cultural environment. We aim to inspire people to nurture their heritage in order to safeguard it for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone.
Founded in 1981, Jersey Heritage is an independent charitable organisation that receives an annual financial grant from the States of Jersey to help support its work as the island museum and archive service. Admission income from visitors and support from sponsors are also vital to keep us operating.
We are responsible for the island's major historic sites, award-winning museums and public archives. We hold collections of artefacts, works of art, documents, specimens and information relating to Jersey's history, culture and environment. These collections define the island, hold the evidence for its historical development and act as the community's memory. For further information please visit: www.jerseyheritage.org
The Société Jersiaise was founded in 1873 and the objects of the Société are the study of the history, the ancient language, the geology, the natural history and the antiquities of the island; the dissemination of knowledge about them through education, publication, exhibition and by other means; the preservation of the ancient language, of antiquities and of significant relics and records; and the conservation of the environment.
The Société Headquarters at No. 7 Pier Road, St Helier, Jersey, houses the Lord Coutanche Library, which offers the most extensive collection in existence of books and documents about Jersey and the Photographic Archive which contains more than 60,000 local images. The Glass Rainbow Trust works to celebrate the life and work of Henry Thomas Bosdet. Most recently the Trust has commissioned an extensive survey of the condition of stained glass in Jersey churches, providing churches with help and advice on how to look after their windows. The Trust has raised the profile of Bosdet by organising talks and exhibitions on his work and has provided funding to purchase the conservation materials required to properly store the extensive collection of Bosdet cartoons held by Jersey Heritage.
